Issue Statement for Southeast Missouri

Public Education: Representative Crowell believes that public education is essential to a successful economic future in Missouri and should be the number one priority. The foundation formula should be reviewed to guarantee that students in Southeast Missouri get their fair share of education dollars. Education funding should go directly to the classroom and not to enrich bureaucrats in Jefferson City.

Fighting Tax Increases: Representative Crowell is fighting to hold the line on taxes because he believes that state government has the responsibility to live within its means. Missouri families should not foot the bill for inefficient government.
Job Protection: Every Missourian deserves the opportunity to possess a good-paying job and support their family. Representative Crowell is prioritizing legislation that retains and creates jobs in Missouri. In order to achieve this it is essential to reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens on small businesses.

Health Care Accessibility and Affordability: Frivolous lawsuits against the healthcare profession have raised medical malpractice rates, driving doctors out of Missouri at startling numbers. Tort reform must be passed to help put an end to the filing of frivolous lawsuits and bring fairness to the civil litigation system.

Promoting Agriculture: With more than 100,000 farms in the state of Missouri agriculture is the foundation of our state's economy. In order to fuel the development of our growing agricultural industry, Representative Crowell supports greater incentives that encourage value-added agriculture and plant sciences research and development. In addition, steps must be taken to reduce overly burdensome regulations on farmers.

Pro Life: Representative Crowell is pro-life and is dedicated to supporting legislation that protects the sanctity of life.

Right to Bear Arms: Representative Crowell supports the Second Amendment, which supports the right of the people to keep and bear arms. This includes a law-abiding citizen's right to carry a concealed firearm.

Tough on Crime: Missouri ranks number one in methamphetamine production. Strict measures must be taken to deal with this scourge on society. Local law enforcement must be equipped with the resources they need to fight the war on drugs. Representative Crowell supports tougher mandatory sentences against violent criminals who prey on the most vulnerable in our society.

Improving our Roads and Bridges: Representative Crowell will fight to secure adequate funding to improve our highways in Southeast Missouri. He will work to stop the diversion of highway dollars into other state departments.
